Microscopic theory of ferromagnetic surface spin waves: Magnetic field effects

Abstract
The effect of a magnetic field applied in an arbitrary direction on the ferromagnetic-surface-spin-wave mode is studied theoretically. The influence of the spatially varying equilibrium directions of the spins owing to a strong surface anisotropy, with easy axis normal to the surface, is taken into account by adopting the continuum model for a magnetic medium. The calculated angular and frequency dependence of the resonance field for the surface mode is in good agreement with the experimental data at room temperature obtained by Wigen and co-workers.
