A Medium Adapted to the Bacteriophage of Rhizobium Leguminosarum

Abstract
The medium M5 of Laird generally used for study of the bacteriophage of Rhizobium spp. has 2 disadvantages; a light brown color, and an objectionable precipitate of Ca salts on the wall of the tube. These can be eliminated by the use of sauerkraut juice in place of yeast extract, and Ca glycerophosphate instead of C[alpha]CO3 and K2HPO4. The resulting medium allows better growth of the culture, and shows greater clearing following lysis thus facilitating the detection of the bacteriophage.
