Abstract
Summary The flows induced by incompressible jets have been analysed for two-dimensional and axisymmetric jets emerging at right angles from an infinite plane surface. In particular, the pressure distribution on the surface has been predicted by replacing the jet with a line sink of variable strength. The theory takes account of the size of the blowing slot or nozzle and is in good agreement with experiment in both cases. Keywords
