The Padstow Confrontation, north Cornwall: a reappraisal

Abstract
The Gravel Caverns section, New Polzeath, north Cornwall, shows clear evidence of multiphase deformation. Tight F1 folds with axial planar S1 slaty cleavage are reported for the first time. These are deformed by north-verging F2 folds with a south-dipping spaced cleavage. The fold and fabric relationships are inconsistent with the widely accepted model of structural confrontation previously described for the region. This model is reassessed.
