Abstract
Ethical and pragmatic issues which are related to patient refusal of medical care are considered and a comprehensive approach to psychiatric evaluation and management presented. Legal interventions which may be utilized are described. The medical-legal committee and the interdisciplinary case conference are suggested as avenues for dialogue, problem-solving and education.Keywords
