Abstract
Previous attempts to cause antibody formation against hyaluronic acid, both by injecting streptococci with capsules composed thereof or hyaluronic acid in combination with the specific protein from Shigella dysenteriae, have been unsuccessful. An aminobenzyl ether of umbilical cord hyaluronic acid was prepd., containing 2 aminobenzyl ether groups per 3 hyaluronic acid residues. This compound retained viscous properties and was hy-drolyzed by testicular hyaluronidase. It was coupled to horse serum albumin and to rabbit serum proteins (7.5-17% of hyaluronic acid being added), the former being used for immunizing rabbits and the latter as test antigen. No evidence of antibody formation against the hyaluronic acid part of the molecule was obtained, using precipitin and complement-fixation techniques. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
