Abstract
A simple method for the determination of the fermentative capacity of various spp. of Monilia is described. The fermentation vessel is a piece of glass tubing 30 mm. X 8 mm., one end of which is sealed. Under sterile conditions up to 0.5 ml. of sugar soln. plus a loopful of material to be examined are placed in the tube. A slightly bent capillary tube (sterile) is introduced in the tube and does not quite reach the bottom. The tube is hermetically sealed with sterile paraffin-vaseline mixture which is poured in and allowed to solidify. Fermentation is followed by the rise of liquid in the capillary tube. Any overflow falls into a petri dish of strong disinfectant in which the tube stands. Keywords
