Abstract
This article outlines the range of responses to stillbirth which a general practitioner can expect to encounter. Variability is the hallmark. Skill in management requires an appreciation of this so ther may be empathy with both the patient who fails to improve quickly and the one who resolves her grief readily. The basis for this is a climate in which the patient can be totally frank about her feelings and fears.
