Abstract
Forty-eight strains of Yersinia enterocolitica belonging to 28 0-serotypes were selected for the study. The sensitivity to mecillinam was compared with that of three other penicillins and two cephalosporins. All strains were sensitive to mecillinam but only a few to ampicillin and/or carbenicillin. None was sensitive to benzylpenicillin, cephalexin or cephalothin. The susceptibility patterns of 100 consecutive isolates of Y. enterocolitica serotype 0 : 3 were investigated by the paper disc diffusion method. All strains were sensitive to mecillinam, gentamicin, sulphamethoxazole-trimethoprim and chloramphenicol, and 84% to doxycyline but almost all were resistant to ampicillin and carbenicillin. Keywords
