131I-Hippuran Scanning in Severe Renal Failure

Abstract
The usefulness of 131I-hippuran scanning in severe renal failure was evaluated by the analysis of 43 cases of acute anuria and of 24 cases of terminal chronic renal insufficiency. Totally innocuous and easily performed, renal scintigraphy usually contributes to the diagnosis as well as the prognosis of severe renal failure. The information it yields can decisively influence thetherapeutic approach in difficult cases such as subacute glomerulonephritis and renal arteryocclusion after aortic surgery.
