Abstract
Conditions of temp., time and concns. are descr. under which glucose, in the presence of thionyl chloride, forms polymeric products. Non-dialyzable glucose polymeric material (molecular wt., 4100) was found to have a diffusion constant (D20w) 12.6 x 10-7, sedimentation constant (S20w) 0.80 x 10-13, and intrinsic viscosity ([[eta]]) 0.018. The polymer ([[alpha]]21D + 100[degree] in water) was hydrolyzed completely by 1[image]-hydrochloric acid to glucose, but was not degraded by salivary amylase, invertase or potato phosphorylase. Keywords
