Abstract
Evidence is presented that yeast [i.e., Rhodotorula glutins var. rubescens and Torulopsis ernobii], abundant in the environment of the fiddler crab, cannot be utilized by the crab as a sole food source when fed under laboratory conditions. These results may provide presumptive evidence that yeasts do not constitute a major portion of the crab''s food source in their natural environment. The possibility exists and remains to be confirmed by laboratory experiments, that yeasts may be important in the crab''s diet in combination with naturally occurring materials. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
