Abstract
Geometrical shapes of cross-section for nylon 6 and polyester false twisted yarns are classified as polysegments plus residual arc type, polysegments without arc, and polygon types. From the results obtained on the shapes of the cross-sections along 2800μ for longi tudinallength for a single nylon false twisted filament, each filament migrates from outside to inside and reverse during heat set processing.Nylon and polyester false twisted yarns are relaxed at the temperature of 120°C, 140°C in water and water containing carriers at 100°C. Mean number of seogments on cross-sections seem to decrease by relaxation, except nylon for feed ratio-1.2 per cent at 120C relaxation.Scanning electronmicrographs are taken for detecting a side view of each for single false twisted filament with and without relaxation.Bending wave of a filament has a polysegmental or polygonal part for abdomen, and residual arc part for back.Filamentous part which has a polysegmental or polygonal cross-sections twists straight forward. It bends rather perpendicularly.Much smaller dye penetration distance from an arc side perimeter of a cross-section than an angular side is observed for a partialy dyed nylon single filament by scanning on its negative film by a microphotometer or by visual inspection.Easiness for dye penetration can be ranked as follows : 2.0% over feed>-1.2%under feed>yarn before false twisted.Amount of moisture regain for the corresponding yarns has the same order as above mentioned. Keywords
