Abstract
X-ray diffuse scattering from hexamethyletane (HME) is carefully examined to investigate the acoustic instability near the plastic–solid phase transition temperature Tc=159 K. It is found that the elastic constant C44 becomes vanishingly small just above Tc.Keywords
