Abstract
Calculations of the second-order Raman scattering are presented for CaO, based on a shell model for the lattice dynamics with a nonlinear coupling between shell and core of the ions assumed. Fairly good agreement with experiment is obtained. The origins of the discrepancies between calculations and experiment are discussed, and are thought to arise primarily from the lattice dynamical model used. Keywords
