Abstract
We have observed a complete cancellation of self‐phase modulation in 1.06‐μ pulses propagating through cesium vapor. The negative nonlinear refractive index responsible for this is measured as n2/N=−(2.5±0.5) ×10−30 esu, in good agreement with the theoretical value −2.62×10−30 esu. Keywords
