Abstract
Silver sulfadiazine is a new topical antimicrobial agent that is used effectively to prevent and treat sepsis in patients with second- and third-degree burns. Because of its low toxicity, relative freedom from complications, and wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity, silver sulfadiazine represents an advance in the pharmacologic management of the burned patient.
