Abstract
Multi-stage processes are classified according to the types of stages which form the processes. A general algorithm, based on Pontryagin's maximum principle, is then established for the optimization of all classes of the multistage processes. A particular algorithm which has been derived previously for the optimization of a simple feedback process is shown to be a special case of the general algorithm. Keywords
