Abstract
Intensities of Auger lines from outer shell configurations of Lithium like Neon atoms induced by Xe24+ and Ar12+ (1.4 MeV/u) impact show, that these configurations are not populated following a n-3 rule. A selective change of line intensities from transitions of outer shells of 3-electron systems (1s2s, p nl)(n=4, 5, 6 ; l=0, 1, 2, 3), depending systematically on the ionization potential of different gases mixed to the target gas, is observed. This indicates that electron capture of highly ionized target atoms from the surrounding neutral species is an important process of the excitation of light target atoms by high energy heavy ion impactKeywords
