Congenital Mesoblastic Nephroma of Infancy: Report of a Case with Unusual Clinical Behavior

Abstract
Clinical and pathologic features of a case of recurrent congenital mesoblastic nephroma in a female infant are described. This is the first reported instance of clinically malignant behavior of this tumor, known to have a benign course as judged from previous reports in the literature. Presence of hypertension, infiltration of the ureter, and moderate focal mitotic activity were the three unusual features of this case which have not been previously described in congenital mesoblastic nephroma. The recurrent tumor responded well to actinomycin D, vincristine, and radiation, and there is no evidence of tumor 8 months after original resection.
