Abstract
A [human] case of aphakic retinal detachment with increased intraocular pressure is described. Overnight the intraocular pressure fell abruptly to non-measurable values and the detachment simultaneously advanced to the optic disc border. Decreased intraocular pressure in eyes with retinal detachment possibly is due to intraocular fluid leaking out of the eye, by a subretinal route, to the perioptic connective tissue. Maximum hypotony when the detachment has advanced to the optic disc border supports the idea of posterior aqueous outflow.
