Abstract
Argues for an analysis of causation in terms counterfactual dependence between events. It shows how this analysis works to distinguish genuine causes from effects, epiphenomena, and preempted potential causes. The paper includes six postscripts, dealing with further issues related to the analysis proposed, such as indeterminism, causation by omission, and redundant causation. Keywords
