Abstract
Energy changes of embryonic development are reviewed for the purpose of defining the various fundamental processes involved in development, and of evaluating the evidence of their dis-sociability as a preliminary to a discussion of the energy requirements of differentiation. Evidence is believed sufficient to warrant the dissociation of energy of maintenance from energy of development and differentiation. A theoretical discussion is presented of the energy requirements of development. An indirect method of approach to the problems is considered desirable.
