In the present study, 27 examples of calcifying epithelioma of Malherbe were examined using Congo red, methyl violet, and thioflavine-T stains. The technique utilizing thioflavine-T fluorescence resulted in the greatest number of positive results (20 out of 27). Methyl violet was next, followed by Congo red, in that order. Because of its greater sensitivity and the property of fluorescence, the thioflavine-T technique facilitated identification of amyloid-like substances in this study.
