Abstract
Chicks fed a completely synthetic (chemically-defined) diet in which amino acids are the sole source of N show a definite subnormal growth response. Casein is superior to its component amino acids as a source of N for the chick. Diets containing some of the nonessential amino acids are superior to diets containing the 11 amino acids now recognized as essential for the chick. Keywords
