Abstract
An investigation has been made into the dosage distribution resulting from the irradiation of the breast by two tangential fields not filled with bolus, and graphs have been drawn which enable the mean surface dose over the breast or chest wall to be predicted with an accuracy of about 3 per cent. The method can be applied to all cases, both preand post-operative. Details are also given of the possible variation of skin dose about this mean value and of the dose distribution to be expected within the breast. This system of dosage estimation necessitates two measurements of the patient being made, and a simple instrument is described which enables this to be done easily and quickly. Keywords
