Abstract
In recent times a number of incomplete blockwise factorization methods have appeared. These are used as preconditioners in iterative methods for the solution of linear systems. This note purports to give a general formulation for incomplete factorizations from which they can be derived. Some computational and theoretical aspects will be touched upon. Keywords
