Ariel V sky survey: X-ray variability of NGC 5128

Abstract
Long-term monitoring of the X-ray source associated with the nucleus of NGC 5128 has produced the most complete light curve in any frequency band for this peculiar active galaxy. The X-ray data indicate activity on at least two timescales: (i) a slow outburst with a timescale of 4–7 yr, (ii) superimposed flares with a timescale of 20–50 day. This pattern of behaviour is related to other X-ray active galaxies: specifically NGC 4151 (Seyfert) and MKN 421 (BL Lac). Some similarities are noted.
