Studies ofK20π+πDecay and Interference

Abstract
We describe a detailed study of the CP-violating decay K20π++π in an experiment performed at the Brookhaven AGS. In a search for an energy dependence in the branching ratio, BR=rate(K20π++π)rate(K20allchargedmodes), we find between 0.95 and 2.45 GeV that if BREn then n=0.03±0.33. Assuming n=0, then BR = (1.97±0.16)×103, yielding |η+|=(1.91±0.09)×103. In an interference experiment at a mean momentum of 1.55 GeV/c, we observe cosα=1.00±0.21, where α is the phase angle between the K20π++π decay amplitude and the π+π amplitude from coherent regeneration in uniformly distributed Be. A search for neutral currents yields a limit on the branching ratio of K20μ±+μ of 3.5×105 and K20μ±+e of 8×106 (both 90% confidence levels). We measure the mass of the K10 to be 497.44±0.50 MeV.
