Abstract
Of two patients with endogenous ocular candidiasis, flucytosine was completely effective in eradicating a bilateral uveoretinitis and vitreitis in addition to eradicating the disseminated candidiasis in one. The unexpected death of the other patient during therapy provided clinicopathologic correlation. The clinical manifestations, treatment alternatives of endogenous ocular candidiasis, and the condition predisposing a patient to this type of serious ocular infection must be considered. Since Candida albicans may be the most common cause of a uveoretinitis for which effective specific therapy exists, the clinician must be alert to the possibility of this disease because successful management depends on early specific antifungal therapy. Keywords
