Abstract
Somatic chromosome counts on the 2 varieties of Actinidia chinensis Planch., var. chinensis and var. hispida C. F. Liang, show different chromosome numbers present — 58 and 170 respectively. A polyploid series with 2n = 2x, 4x, and 6x, is suggested with the possibility of a simple sex chromosome mechanism involved in the sequence, i.e., 2n = 58 = 2 × 28 + XX/XY and 2n = 170 = 6 × 28 + XX/XY.Keywords
