Abstract
Five instances of this syndrome have been described and the factors which render cirrhotic patients susceptible to it discussed. This complication which has rarely been recognized before, is probably not uncommon in decompensated cirrhotics. Since this potentially lethal infection responds rapidly to antibiotic therapy, it is important that it be recognized and treated promptly. Keywords
