Abstract
A search for Simulium nyasalandicum near type locality yielded few specimens, and species may have become scarce since its discovery in 1914. S. woodi was rare at type locality and may be disappearing as a result of deforestation for cultivation of tea. Members of S. neavei complex are known from 2 other districts. Larvae and pupae of Chironomidae were found living as epizoites on crabs, and this and some other fresh-water associations are briefly discussed in relation to association between crabs and members of S. neavei complex.
