Abstract
It is established that, in the solar system, among the planetary and satellite systems, the occurrence of commensurability between pairs of mean motions is more frequent than in a chance distribution. It is suggested that the observed distribution may be due either to a property of the mechanism of formation of the solar system, or to an inherent stability of commensurable configurations. Keywords
