Abstract
SUMMARY: Seven determinations of energy and nitrogen retention using four adult wether sheep were made when they were fed a complete cobbed diet. The diet contained 30% of barley straw and had a metabolizable energy value of 10·9 kJ/g organic matter and the net availabilities of its metabolizable energy were 52·8% for fattening and 72·8% for maintenance. The starch equivalent on a dry basis was 53.Keywords
