Studies of Antibodies in Ascitic Fluid of Individual Mice

Abstract
Mice made ascitic with Freund''s adjuvant responded to primary and secondary stimulation with sheep erythrocytes by developing high titers of hemolysin in the ascitic fluid. Maximum titers after primary stimulation occurred in individual mice about day 7; maximum titers after secondary stimulation occurred later than that. Ovalbumin caused antibody production as measured by the passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) test which reached a maximum value in about one month. Antibody N determinations did not correlate well with PCA titers. These studies show feasibility of detailed and repeated immunologic observations on individual mice made ascitic by injections of Freund''s adjuvant.
