Abstract
Iterative transformation of performance models into operational systems is a desirable goal for rapid prototyping technologies. The author describes an approach to transforming a hybrid model into an operational system that can be shown to satisfy its performance specifications. A hybrid model merges operational modules with abstract simulation modules. The capabilities supported by the methodology include: (a) interrupt handling, (b) integration of distributed software and hardware components, and (c) evaluation of the effect of upgrading existing hardware components. The author also describes how simulation algorithms can be adapted to execute hybrid modules. The PIPS (partially implemented performance models) methodology can handle interruptible processes and include the execution of hybrid models in which the physical module executes faster than the logical module.Keywords
