Abstract
Substrate texture was quantified by using sand, sieved into 4 homogeneous particle sizes, as oviposition substrates. Results of 12 experiments with 240 female Ae. vexans revealed a significant egg-laying preference for particles sizes in the 0.33 mm to 0.62 mm range. Additional observations concerning egg orientation are discussed. The possible mechanism for texture selection and its evolutionary significance is presented. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
