Abstract
Illumination at 230 K of dithionite‐reduced particles results in the appearance of an EPR detectable radical 13 G wide with g = 2.0033. This radical is formed in a ratio of 2.28 (±0.5)/P700. Investigation of the time course of formation shows two components are present. One (A 1) has g = 2.0051 and the other (A o g= 2.0024. Reduction of A 1 results in an increase in reaction centre triplet formation, subsequent reduction of A o results in a decrease of triplet formation to the base level. We propose that these components function sequentially in the transfer of electrons from P700 to the iron—sulphur acceptors. Keywords
