Abstract
The concept of satisfaction represents an important variable for the education domain. Indeed, several authors have underscored its intimate relation with several important educational consequences such as learning, performance, and persistence at school. Still, no reliable and valid instrument exists in French to measure this important construct. The purpose of this article was to develop and validate l''Echelle de Satisfaction dans les Etudes (ESDE). This scale assesses a global and subjective evaluation of life quality in education based on the student''s own criteria. A total of five studies were conducted in order to assess the scale''s psychometric properties. Overall, results reveal that the ESDE has adequate levels of internal consistency and temporal stability. In addition, the unidimensional structure of the scale was supported in two factor analyses, one exploratory and the other confirmatory in nature (LISREL). Finally, the construct validity of the ESDE was supported in two studies in which the scale showed links with motivational indices as predicted and was able to predict dropping out of a compulsory college course. Suggestions relative to the use of the ESDE for research and applied purposes are offered. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
