Abstract

The location and nucleotide sequence of the genes and flanking regions for tRNA^Arg(ACG) and tRNA^Leu(UAG) on tobacco chloroplast DNA have been determined. The gene arrangement is 5S rRNA - 260 bp -tRNA^Arg - 581 by - tRNA^Asn - 5.2 kbp - tRNA^Leu. The tRNA^Arg and tRNA^Leu genes are expressed in the chloroplasts. The opposite strand of the tRNAArg gene contains a tRNA^Arg-like sequence. The tRNA^Arg, tRNA^Asn and tRNA^Leu coding regions are contained in open reading frames.
