Abstract
The long preferred method of treatment of Dupuytren's contracture has been total palmar fasciectomy. The results of this treatment have generally been satisfactory, but objections are raised to this procedure in that a long convalescence is required, secondary skin coverage is not infrequently necessary, and the occasional poor result leaves the patient with a virtually functionless hand. In this study of a limited resection operation for Dupuytren's contracture it was found that satisfactory function, short convalescence, and a rapid return to normal activities could be obtained without the danger of a disastrous result. When the operation was performed for the indication of contracture in 12 hands, no recurrence was noted in follow-ups ranging from 1 to 5 years.
