Urethral Syndrome in the Female (“Irritable Bladder”): The Expression of Fantasies About the Urogenital Area

Abstract
A brief survey of the history of the urethral syndrome was presented. Case reports of 55 women with the syndrome were examined. The significance of the manner in which patients described their perceptions of the pain, a valuable diagnostic sign, was emphasized. A follow-up study of patients for 3-21 yr after the 1st interview demonstrated the relative efficiency of the various forms of treatment. The therapeutic possibilities and their limitations were discussed.
