Abstract
Lawrence, J. S. (Arthritis & Rheumatism Council, 128 Birchflelds Road, Manchester, 14, England). Generalized osteoarthrosis in a population sample. Amer. J. Epid., 1969, 90: 381–389.—The prevalence of nodal and non-nodal types of generalized osteoarthrosis has been assessed in populations aged 45 and over in northwest England. The nodal type was more prevalent in females but non-nodal type showed a slight predominance in males. Symptoms were commonly limited to one joint, usually a knee. Evidence is produced that both inflammatory polyarthritis and hyperuricemia play a part in the non-nodal but not in the nodal form of generalized osteoarthrosis. Keywords
