Abstract
For 7 years, 1962–68, a study has been underway near Oxford, N. C., to determine the effectiveness of blacklight lamps used in traps to attract tobacco hornworm moths, Manduca sexta (Johannson). The 324–1115 traps which were operated from mid-May to October also captured as many as 900 corn earworm moths, Heliothis zea (Boddie), per checking interval of 3–4 days as well as limited numbers of fall armyworm moths, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith). Since both these species sometimes attack field corn and cause similar damage, the present paper reports the effect of the hornworm trapping program on lepidopteran insects attacking field corn. Keywords
