An Improvement of the Holzer Table Based on a Suggestion of Rayleigh’s

Abstract
The calculation of torsional natural frequencies is considerably facilitated by a simple auxiliary computation used in conjunction with the well-known Holzer table. The procedure is described and illustrated and several practical suggestions are given. In many cases the total computation time can be cut in half by adopting this method. Mathematical justification for the process is given in the Appendix.
