Abstract
A general model for analysing disease-marker associations from a random sample of patients and controls is given, assuming an arbitrary number of marker and disease susceptibility alleles. A method for testing the goodness-of-fit of various disease susceptibility models to the observed distribution of genotypes at the marker locus in patient and control samples is given. The method is demonstrated using a recently published data set on type I diabetes. Keywords
