LB 3459, a short-period eclipsing binary system containing two O-type subdwarfs

Abstract
LB 3459 (= CPD −69° 389 = HDE 269696) has been found to be an eclipsing binary system with a period of 0.261539 day. A preliminary analysis of the available photometric data, high (time) resolution observations during eclipse as well as conventional uvby photometry, demonstrates that both components of the system are O-type subdwarfs. The orbital inclination is 90°. The importance of this system together with problems concerning the effective temperatures appropriate for each component are emphasized.
