An improved synthesis of amphiphilic 4,4′-disubstituted 2,2′-bipyridines

Abstract
An expedient one step synthesis of 4-alkyl-4′-methyl- and 4,4′-dialkyl-2,2′-bipyridines has been developed. The desired products are obtained, in good yields, by reaction of alkyl bromides with either the monoor dilithio-anion of 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine.
