Abstract
The Compton profiles of NaF, KC', yellow and black S, β Si3X4, Ca and Co were measured with Ag Kα radiation (Λ = 0·559 Å) at a scattering angle of 159°. The profiles of NaF and KCl are approximately represented by a superposition of Na++ F− and K++ Cl− free-atom momentum densities with some departures due to solid state effects. No difference was observed between crystalline (yellow) and amorphous (black) S. Ca metal showed a discontinuity in momentum density at pt = 0·74 a.u. compared to a free-electron Fermi momentum of 0·58 a.u. The entire first row of transition metals have a fairly constant expectation value ½p −1 = 5·3 ± 0·2 a.u. The silicon nitride profile showed some differences relative to a superposition of the experimentally observed silicon and N2 profiles. Keywords
